Respect the Piglet

The other night Addison wrote down some rules for her bed. Why does a 5 year old need rules for her bed? I don't know, but I was interested. Here is rule number two.

"Respect the Piglet"

Everyone knows about Piglet and I do believe we need to respect him. Here is a small creature that manages to live quite a happy life in the shadow of Pooh. As I was pondering this rule I found that it made more and more sense to me as a rule to live by.

Simple living is respecting what may seem small and insignificant. Understanding that even small steps can make a big difference. The other day I overheard someone talking about something they bought at the "Christmas Tree Shop". "Only a $1.50 what a deal" was the main point, but the the point was clearly missed. Whatever 'it' was, certainly cost more than a $1.50 when you look at the true cost; from resource extraction to disposal. It will probably cost more that $1.50 just to haul the thing to the landfill. So the little things like supporting your local farmer, builder, restaurant, retail store, musician, artist or just being cognisant of where every thing comes from and where it goes can make a huge difference. If everyone took just a couple of small steps eventually we can all cover great distances.

So....

Respect the Piglet.
