Data

Finally I have made it to a place that has high speed internet. It is not that we cannot get high speed at home, but I refuse to have both the cable company and phone company sending me bills. When we made the decison to simplify our lives, decreasing the number of companies that we owe monthly bills was top on the list.

Data for the past 11 months

Average Kw/day 5.03
Cost per day $0.95
Yearly cost $348
Kw purchased 2433
Kw sold 647
Total Kw used 3103

These numbers are on target with where we wanted to be. Our last house used over 6000 Kw a year, so we have cut our total Kw by 50%. In addition the electricity we purchase is from a ecologically friendly hydro and wind produced in Maine.

I expect these numbers to decrease next year. Our biggest winter use of electricity was in heating domestic hot water. We have just added a third rack of solar tubes so this should provide near 100% of our hot water needs. In addition we expect to pick up some more space heating which should decrease our wood burning a little bit.

More data to come at the one year mark.
