A Story for Copenhagen

Once a deverish wandering through a forest happened upon a fox that had lost its legs.  "How does the poor thing manage to survive?" the dervish asked himself.  Just then a tiger happened along, carrying its prey.  The tiger ate what it wanted and left the rest for the fox.  The next day the dervish came back, and the same thing happened.
"So that's how it's done," thought the dervish.  "I'll try the same."  So he went home, sat in a corner, and waited for the universe to provide for him.  He waited for days, and nothing came.  Finally, becoming famished , he heard a voice:  "You're following the wrong example.  You have legs.  Be like the tiger, not the fox."

This story is from "The Sufi Book of Life".  I have been following the climate talks in Copenhagen and have been mystified that all these people are gathered and each is looking out for their own interests.  They are missing the point completely.  It is not about any one persons or countries interests it is about our collective survival.  Even if global warming is not caused by man, we still need to rely on each other to survive day to day.  I am not rich and cannot donate large sums of money to help others, but my donation is my simple life style.  Taking only what I need thereby leaving more for others.  Every day I am amazed at how much I have and am blessed to be living where we do.  I have unlimited access to heat, water, food and intellectual stimulation.  I am able to get up each morning and not worry about my survival.  I have legs.

Namaste

My opinion about Copenhagen.  We cannot rely on our "leaders" to save this planet, we each need to do our own part and lead a simple life.
