Climate change and the story of our stuff

www.storyofstuff.com

"The period from 2000 through 2009 has been “warmer than the 1990s,
which were warmer than the 1980s and so on,” said Michel Jarraud, the
secretary general of the international weather agency, speaking at a
news conference at the climate talks in Copenhagen."

I heard/read several things today in my travels.  One was the above quote.  I think we can all recall our childhoods when winter seemed to last from Thanksgiving until at least early April.  I remember deep snow and cold.  No longer, now it can rain for weeks in January.  I know that there has been debate about whether the earth is warming as a result of human activity, but my take on it is that even if us humans are only contributing a small amount that small amount is toxic.  I recently read a report of fish changing from male to female because of the hormones that are disposed of into our water system.  Who cares what is causing our planet to warm, we need to be part of the solution.  In addition it seems that the only ones that are saying it is not warming are the ones that have a financial stake in our continued use of fossil fuels.  We have been trapped into believing that our survival is dependent on our continued growth of our industrial society.  The industrial revolution started a couple hundred years ago and it is time for it to come to a close.  We have invented ways for humans to live comfortably on earth and not destroy it at the same time.  We need to slow the progress and enjoy the fruits of our labor.  We have excreted CO2 for 200 years and it is now time to pay back the debt.  If you are interested in a couple of good documentaries on our use of stuff and the current plan of Cap and Trade check out www.storyofstuff.com

Be a part of the solution.  Be vocal.  Spread the word.  Respect our earth.

May my mind think only positive thoughts
May my mouth speak only kind words
May my heart feel compassion
I honor you great mother earth

Namaste
